Review: Pico laser treatment at PHI Clinic, Bangsar
Seeking a non-invasive and highly effective method to enhance your skin’s condition? The Pico laser treatment at PHI Clinic might be it.
Laser treatments have traditionally been associated with discomfort and pain, discouraging many individuals from considering them. This aversion is justified as earlier laser treatments were uncomfortable, particularly for those with a low pain threshold, and primarily targeted individuals with significant ageing concerns. However, the landscape has significantly evolved. Today’s laser treatments, especially with the Discovery Pico, are suited to everyone, regardless of skin sensitivity or ageing status.
The Discovery Pico is the latest laser technology brought to Malaysia by Quanta System. It stands as the world’s fastest second-generation laser, offering unparalleled power in addressing various skin imperfections, including common issues like acne, pigmentation and ageing skin. This cutting-edge technology delivers ultra-short bursts of energy to the skin in picoseconds. In a head-to-head comparison with standard laser treatments, a single session of the Discovery Pico yields results equivalent to four sessions of traditional laser therapy. Remarkably, this accelerated treatment produces instant results while remaining suitable for all skin types.
My personal experience with this technology occurred at the PHI Clinic in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. I must admit that when I initially learned about this treatment, I had some reservations. The idea of laser beams penetrating my skin at such high speeds was quite daunting. While I was reassured that it was suitable for all skin types, I would still recommend consulting with your therapist before proceeding to ensure your peace of mind.
The entire treatment was supposed to be completed in under an hour. However, based on the assessment and recommendations of my therapist, Dr Annushia, my skin required additional attention which extended the session to nearly two hours. The procedure commenced with a standard double cleanse, a customary step in any facial treatment. Subsequently, a numbing cream was applied, and laser treatment commenced after a 30-minute interval.
Having combination skin and a relatively average pain tolerance, I found that the treatment was not as painful as I had initially anticipated. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be accurate to describe it as particularly comfortable or soothing. During the procedure, one experiences intermittent small stinging sensations, accompanied by a noticeable burning odour in the air. Dr Annushia explained that this is a normal occurrence as the burning smell is a result of facial hair being singed off. The entire laser treatment lasted between seven to 10 minutes after which the session concluded. Dr Annushia was attentive to my comfort and reactions throughout the treatment, underscoring the importance of communicating any discomfort to your therapist during the process.
Following the laser treatment, an enjoyable phase awaited me: the application of a cooling sheet mask to alleviate any discomfort resulting from the laser procedure. The atmosphere in the treatment room was so soothing that I drifted into a brief nap. 15 minutes later, I was ready to leave. My skin did exhibit some redness, primarily due to the slightly higher pressure used during the treatment to target my skin’s specific needs. While there was supposed to be no significant downtime, I was advised by my therapist to nourish my skin with a good moisturiser and also to let it rest for at least a week.
A week post-treatment, I observed noticeable improvements in my skin. It appeared brighter and maintained a lovely, radiant glow for several days. Additionally, my pores seemed to have reduced in size, and my smile lines appeared less pronounced. Amazingly, these results were achieved after just one session. For those who are looking for a way to address their skin problem of severe pigmentation or large pores, this is a treatment worth considering.
