In a groundbreaking collaboration for Fall 2023, Levi’s® and KENZO have joined forces under the creative direction of Nigo, to redefine denim with both East and West influences.
Paying homage to the founder of KENZO, Kenzo Takada, this unique partnership seamlessly blends Parisian sophistication with Japanese craftsmanship, celebrating Takada's love for Americana aesthetics and traditional Japanese construction methods.
The collection, comprising approximately 20 pieces, is a tribute to the timeless appeal of denim. Each item, meticulously crafted from the finest Kaihara premium Japanese denim, embodies a rich history.
Captured against the picturesque backdrop of Kyoto, Japan, the campaign reflects the essence of the collaboration. Renowned Japanese filmmaker Umi Ishihara brings the fusion of East-meets-West to life in a mesmerizing video campaign set in traditional sansou mountain villas.
Accompanied by the captivating still imagery, expertly captured by photographer Ryu Ika, this collaboration not only revitalizes denim but also bridges the gap between cultures and eras, creating a harmonious blend of style and heritage that transcends borders.
Iconic Levi Strauss & Co. designs, once worn by miners and cowboys, find new life in contemporary silhouettes. Nigo’s expertise lies in the art of detailing, evident in pieces like denim jackets adorned with detachable faux fur and fringes inspired by the iconic KENZO JUNGLE line from the ‘80s. The collection also features denim ties, shirts, and the classic 501® jeans, all reimagined with a modern twist.
One of the collaboration’s standout features is the co-branded logo, merging Levi’s® classic “two horse pull” iconography with KENZO’s emblem. Metal shanks are intricately embossed with KENZO’s signature Boke flower, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail.
