Aesop’s Women’s Library arrives in Malaysia
A plentiful collection of books authored by women and individuals who identify as allies.
Aesop, the renowned Australian skincare brand, continues to advocate for women's voices and narratives, irrespective of the date or event. After the successful introduction of Aesop Singapore Women's Library in Southeast Asia, Aesop is now launching its first-ever Women's Library in Malaysia, which will be hosted in three Aesop stores - Aesop Pavilion and Aesop The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur , and Aesop Gurney Plaza in Penang - during the weekends of 26 May - 28 May and 2 - 4 June 2023.
For three days, the stores' shelves will be emptied of products and filled exclusively with books by mostly Malaysian female authors and their allies. This literary selection, comprising over 20 titles, ranges from new authors to veteran writers and spans genres from short stories to novels and poetry. Viji Krishnamoorthy, 梁靖芬, Hanna Alkaf, and Alina Rastam are among the featured writers.
Customers visiting the stores will be entitled to one complimentary book of their choosing, without any purchase necessary, in the ephemeral library. Aesop has bought more than 6,000 books from six collaborating publishing houses to support independent publishers and booksellers, such as Lit Books, Clarity Publishing, Cite Book Garden, Gerak Budaya Kuala Lumpur, Penwings Publishing, and Buku Fixi.
Moreover, to encourage self-expression through writing, the Aesop Women's Library is collaborating with the literary podcast Two Book Nerds Talking. During three episodes, the hosts will introduce the local initiative, share their thoughts on the books featured, and invite a few authors to discuss their path to becoming a writer.
